Abstract
The half shell (4) of a thin wall bearing is formed from sheet metal and then has the end flanges (1, 2) welded on by means of an electron beam or a laser beam. Distortion is avoided by confining the welded to a single central area (A) or to two small side areas (B). If the welding is confined to the two side areas (B) the distortion can be reduced still further by making a slot (10) at the midpoint of each end flange (1, 2).
