Abstract
Jewellery objects are provided with a gold-coloured coating over the heat-insensitive substrate, the coating which is 0-1 mu thick, consisting of Ti nitride contg. an element from Al, Si, V, Cr, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, Ge, Y, Zr, Nb, Mo, Ru, Rh, Pd, Ag, Cd, In, Sn, Sb, Ti, Hf, Ta, W, Ir, Pt and Au. The outer surface of the coating has a spectral reflection ratio in the range 1.2/1-3.0/1 at 550 m mu and 400 m mu. The carrier may be steel and/or Ni, and/or Ni-Ag, and/or an alloy such as Al alloy, and/or a ceramic substance, and/or heat resistant resin. For watch cases, straps and rings. The colour of the coating resembles gold closely and the method is economical.
