Abstract

Appts. for feeding a viscous prod., partic. a paste constituting the friction part of a match-box, on to a roller for applying the prod. on to a band of material, partic. cardboard, moving continuously past the roller incorporates a reserve of prod. with which the roller is always in contact. This reserve is bounded by a part of the periphery of the roller and an oblique wall extended by a blade which comes into contact with the roller on a level with the generator of the roller in the extension of the wall, forming an acute dihedral angle. The blade can pivot with the wall assembly facing the roller so that the force with which it bears on the roller can be adjusted to a desired value. Problems associated with the use of a partly submerged roller are avoided. Appts. puts the roller in contact with a very small quantity of prod., fed frequently from a reservoir. The movement of the prod. is limited to simple contact with the roller and the small quantity avoids recycling. The feed is effected at the required temp. for the best conditions.
