Abstract

Tyres having rubber-reinforced sidewalls for support if used deflated are provided with relatively inextensible subtread reinforcement plies sepd. or supported by a relatively thick hoop of rubber. The rubber hoop inhibits concave buckling of the tread zone when rolling at reduced pressure. Pref. the tyres are moulded with the sidewalls slightly sprayed so that, when mounted on a car wheel, the sidewall supports are precompressed for entrained stiffness. The structures have a relatively high stiffness/wt. ratio for the tread crown when hot supported pneumatically.
