Abstract

The two sides of the tracked vehicle are driven by special epicyclic gear trains linked to each other and the engine. The gear trains are each linked to a track with one element and to the engine with another element. The third elements are linked to each other and are set to counteract their reaction forces for ahead travel. For steering control the linked elements are driven in either direction by a hydraulic servo motor to operate the differential thrust drive. No friction brakes are required, giving a long life with minimum wear.
