Abstract
The linkage for actuating aircraft aerodynamic control surfaces, esp. ailerons, has a link quadrilateral converting linear movement of the input rod (25) into rotation of the bracket (24) carrying the aileron mounted on outriggers (5) from the wing. The normal idler link in the quadrilateral is replaced by a 3-link unit (30, 45, 31) with a T-link in the middle connected to a fixed pivot (36) bell crank (35). A linear input (43) to the bell crank thus varies effective link length, permitting aileron angling independent of normal operating mechanism. Ailerons can thus be used for rapid lift variation.
