Abstract

Polyethylene terephthalate multifilaments yarns are extruded through an orifice spinning plate coagulated and discharged in such a manner that the double refractive index of the discharged filaments lies in the range 0.025 to 0.075, whereupon the filaments are thermally treated at constant length to produce treated filaments whose breaking strength is >=50% and the residual shrinkage in air at 150 degrees C is 5%. The yarns are used as weft yarns in fabrics which in turn are used as reinforcing fabrics in pneumatic tyre prodn.
