Abstract

Each flange is joined to the shaft of a beam by a bush, a bearing or similar, which is fixed in the flange. At each end of the shaft there is an adjustable stop to restrict the lateral motion of the flanges, such as a collar formed by a ring with a slot which can be tightened on the shaft by a screw. The beam, which may be used for warping and weaving, or as a rell for fabrics, paper, films, etc., has the advantages that when full or empty it can be rolled and manipulated easily on the floor. If it is necessary to unwind a length of material from it, the flanges can be wedged and the shaft rotated by drawing the material reedled on it. The flanges can be positioned to accommodate wider or narrower widths of material.
