Abstract

The vehicle traverses a fluid carrying pipeline and has wheels mounted on the body for engagement with the wall of the pipe line. At least one hydraulic displacement device is drivingly coupled to a wheel and connected in a hydraulic circuit with flow in the hydraulic circuit controlled to regulate the speed of the vehicle. The or each hydraulic displacement device may be a hydraulic motor supplied with hydraulic fluid by a pump on the vehicle driven by a turbine extracting power from flow of fluid in the pipeline past the vehicle. Each displacement device may be an hydraulic pump driven by the wheels to pump hydraulic fluid through a ballast valve to a reservoir. A motor provides power for auxiliary equipment.
