Description
The present invention relates to structures comprising an electronic chip and a corresponding antenna and the methods of manufacturing such structures. The invention relates more particularly but not exclusively to the field of secure documents.
De plus, l'invention permet avantageusement la formation de la cavité par compression ultrasonore, sans enlèvement de matière."Secure document" means a means of payment, such as a bank note, a check or a restaurant ticket, an identity document, such as an identity card, a visa, a passport or a passport. driver's license, a lottery ticket, a ticket or a ticket to cultural or sporting events. More and more secure documents are incorporating contactless RFID communication devices, including an electronic chip and an antenna, such as identity cards, driving licenses and electronic or biometric passports. The interest of these secure documents is their interactivity and their security through the use of an antenna and an electronic chip. The invention is concerned with documents in which the antenna is external to the chip, in particular being wired, etched or screen printed. The antenna may have two ends electrically connected to the chip or be electromagnetically coupled to the chip when the latter has an internal antenna, so as to allow reading of the chip at a greater distance. The structure used in the production of secure documents and carrying the external antenna and the chip is called "inlay". There are many variants of such structures, the carrier carrying the chip and the antenna may be paper or synthetic materials such as TESL1N®, PET, PC, etc. This support may comprise two identical or different layers of nature, the first layer allowing the laying of the antenna and the insertion of a portion of the chip, the second layer coming opposite the first to compensate for the rest of the thickness of the chip and cover the antenna; the two layers are assembled by hot or cold lamination, by melting the materials or by using adhesive, depending on the case. The application FR 2 918 485 discloses a structure comprising a so-called module chip having a stepped shape received in two layers provided with recesses of different sizes. The two layers are assembled by lamination. The antenna wire can be attached to one of the layers by thermocompression or ultrasound. The antenna receiving layer is fibrous, being formed at least in part of natural fibers, a mineral filler and a coating binder. The application WO 2005/100021 A2 discloses other examples of structures comprising a chip and an antenna, with an intermediate layer having a window in which the chip at least partially extends. The application WO 2006/073907 A1 describes a method of manufacturing a structure in which the chip and the antenna are deposited on a substrate devoid of a cavity. This substrate is then sandwiched between two layers, one of which is provided, at right 10 of the chip, with a cavity, then the assembly is laminated so as to obtain a structure of constant thickness. The application WO 2009/046791 discloses a structure comprising a support provided with a recess having a shoulder, in which the chip is received. The application WO 2011/13497 discloses a structure comprising a monolayer fibrous support having a cavity housing the chip; the cavity is made by compression. The antenna can be formed with a compression-buried wire, in particular by ultrasound, with local fusion of the matrix of the fibrous support. There is a need to further improve the structures carrying a chip and an antenna constituting a contactless RFID device, intended to be used in particular for making identification cards or electronic passports or other booklets and manufacturing processes of such structures. The object of the invention is therefore, according to one of its aspects, a method of manufacturing a structure comprising an electronic chip and an antenna, carried by a support, in which process the antenna is arranged in a first cavity 25 pre-existing support, so as to be accommodated at least partially in its thickness. Thanks to the invention, it is possible, if desired, to use a monolayer support to fully house the chip and the antenna and thus avoid the manufacture of a support with two layers, possibly different thicknesses , and thus remove steps of manufacturing these layers and assembling them. In addition, the invention advantageously allows the formation of the cavity by ultrasonic compression, without removal of material.
It is possible to ensure through the compressibility of the material and the fact that the cavity area is densified locally, that the cavity thus formed does not affect the surface of the material on the back of the cavity. In addition, the formation of the cavity by ultrasonic compression makes it possible to limit creep and to avoid melting of the material during the cavity forming step. The invention allows the insertion of a non-module chip, that is to say not having a stepped shape but for example a rectangular or square parallelepiped shape. A picking tool, driven by a machine or a human, is advantageously used for the removal of the chip in the corresponding cavity. The cavity intended to receive the chip may have, in plan view, a square or rectangular outline or any other form in correlation with the shape of the chip, to accommodate flip chip type chips, such as for example new generations of chips developed by Infineon and marketed under the reference "CIS". The invention makes it possible to obtain a structure comprising a chip and an antenna housed in the support without creating excess thickness, avoiding a lamination step to make the antenna penetrate by compression into the support. Once the structure according to the invention associated with one or more other layers of a secure document, the chip and the antenna are not easily detectable because they do not create extra thickness. The antenna being compensated at least partially and better completely in thickness due to its presence in a pre-existing cavity of the support, a step of lamination of the support and a layer covering it, to penetrate turns of 25 l. antenna in the substrate, is no longer necessary; for example, a simple bonding of the structure with a cover and a set of leaflets makes it possible to obtain a passport, and the cost of the process for manufacturing the passport is therefore reduced. The support preferably comprises a second cavity, which pre-exists at the moment of introduction of the chip into the support, capable of accommodating at least partially the chip in its thickness. The depth of the second cavity may be greater than or equal to the thickness of the chip.
The depth of the first cavity may be greater than or equal to the thickness of the antenna. When the depth of the first cavity is less than the thickness of the antenna, a layer of an adhesive, especially hot melt, may be applied to the support to compensate for the thickness of the antenna above the support. It is the same when the depth of the second cavity is less than the thickness of the chip. The first and / or second cavity are preferably formed by compression of the support, in particular by ultrasound, as mentioned above; alternatively, the cavity or cavities are made by hot or cold stamping, machining by cutting tool with removal of material or energy beam machining (particularly by laser beam). An adhesive may at least partially fill the first and / or second cavity, in particular before placing the antenna and / or the chip. An adhesive, in particular hot-melt adhesive, may be applied after laying the antenna and the chip, on the support, the antenna and the chip. The antenna may be wired and comprise at least two turns joined together, including rigidly, by an adhesive, prior to the removal of the antenna in the first cavity. For example, the antenna comprises a copper wire with an insulating sheath and an adhesive outer layer. In this case, the set of contiguous turns may have a width substantially less than that of non-joined turns deposited by a so-called "wire-embedding" technique, such as that disclosed in the publications EP880754 or US6698089, or simply deposited one after the others with a deposition head which unrolls the antenna wire, as disclosed in publications EP0700575 or US6023838, on an adhesive layer disposed at the bottom of the first cavity, particularly because the dispensing head presents a certain dimension at the origin of a non-zero distance between the turns. The implementation of contiguous antenna turns before they are removed is thus particularly advantageous in that it makes it possible to produce the first cavity with a reduced width.
The antenna can be pre-assembled with the chip before laying the assembly on the support. Alternatively, the antenna and the chip are placed on the support, and the antenna is electrically connected to the chip. The second cavity may have a shoulder, in particular when using a module-type chip. The first and / or second cavity are preferably non-traversing, which provides advantages in terms of maintaining and protecting the chip and the antenna. Alternatively, the first and / or second cavity are through. The support is preferably monolayer, which simplifies manufacture, as explained above. The thickness of the chip may be between 50 and 400 μm, better still between 150 and 350 μm. The thickness of the antenna can be between 10 and 150 gm, for example with a thickness of 10 gm for an antenna made with screen-printed ink and 150 gm for a copper wire antenna. Preferably, the thickness of the support exceeds at least 20 μm the thickness of the chip, so that it is mechanically protected by the support. The thickness of the support is preferably between 100 and 400 gm. The support may be fibrous, which is well suited to forming the cavity or cavities by compression, in particular by ultrasonic compression. The first and second cavities are preferably formed simultaneously, preferably using an ultrasonic frequency compression head of a machine tool. A third cavity communicating with the first and second cavities is preferably formed, preferably simultaneously with the latter, preferably again with the aid of the same machine tool head. This third cavity allows the ends of the wire of the antenna connecting the turns to the chip not to create extra thickness. Preferably, the depth of this third cavity is greater than or equal to the thickness of the antenna wire. The first and third cavities may have the same depth. The first, second and / or third cavities may have a flat bottom. When a layer of adhesive, especially hot melt, is deposited on the support after laying the antenna and the chip and the latter is module type with lead frame and encapsulated circuit (potting), the The thickness of this adhesive layer is preferably greater than or equal to the thickness of the connection support. According to another of its aspects, the subject of the invention is a structure that can be obtained by implementing the method according to the invention, comprising: an electronic chip, an antenna connected to or coupled to the electronic chip, a monolayer medium, comprising a first cavity whose cross section taken in the thickness of the support is greater than or equal to that of the antenna and / or whose bottom shape is different from that of the antenna, the support having a thickness greater than or equal to the thickness of the face facing the antenna, the antenna being preferably received entirely in said cavity. The shape of the bottom of the cavity may differ from that of the face facing the antenna because the antenna does not have to be mechanically driven into the support when it is put in place, because of the presence of the first cavity that pre-exists when setting up the antenna. The structure may comprise a second cavity, having a depth greater than or equal to the thickness of the chip, in which it is received entirely. The first cavity is preferably non-through, as well as the second, especially in the case of the use of a chip that is not staged.
The antenna may be wired and have at least two turns joined together, including rigidly, by an adhesive, prior to the removal of the antenna in the first cavity. The structure can be linked, within a secure article, to an additional element covering a face of the support on which the first cavity opens, this element being advantageously without local decrease in its thickness above the antenna. This additional element is for example a passport cover or a page of a set of leaflets. The additional element may be monolayer or formed of several layers laminated with the structure, in particular in the case of a multilayer card. The structure may comprise a layer of adhesive, especially hot melt, covering the support with the antenna and the chip.
The chip may be of the module type, with a connection support and an encapsulated circuit, the hot-melt adhesive layer having a thickness greater than or equal to that of the connection support. The invention further relates, in another of its aspects, to a document, in particular a secure document, incorporating a security structure according to the invention, as defined above. The structure according to the invention or the secure document comprising such a structure may comprise one or more additional security elements as defined below. Among the additional security features, some are detectable by eye, daylight or artificial light, without the use of a particular device. These security elements comprise for example colored fibers or boards, fully or partially printed or metallized wires. These security elements are called first level. Other types of additional security elements are detectable only with a relatively simple apparatus, such as an ultraviolet (UV) or infrared (IR) emitting lamp. These security elements comprise, for example, fibers, boards, strips, wires or particles. These security elements may be visible to the naked eye or not, being for example luminescent under lighting of a Wood lamp emitting at a wavelength of 365 nm. These security elements are said to be second level. Other types of additional security elements require for their detection a more sophisticated detection device. These security elements are, for example, capable of generating a specific signal when they are simultaneously or simultaneously subjected to one or more external excitation sources. The automatic detection of the signal makes it possible to authenticate, if necessary, the document. These security elements comprise, for example, tracers in the form of active materials, particles or fibers capable of generating a specific signal when these tracers are subjected to optronic, electrical, magnetic or electromagnetic excitation. These security elements are said to be third level.
The additional security element or elements present in the document, or the security structure that it comprises, may have first, second or third level security features. The invention will be better understood on reading the following detailed description of nonlimiting exemplary embodiments thereof, as well as on examining the appended drawing, in which: FIG. 1 schematically and partially shows a structure according to the invention; FIG. 2 is a section along II-H of FIG. 1, taken according to the thickness of the structure, FIG. FIG. 1 after assembly with another layer, FIGS. 4A to 4C illustrate various steps of an exemplary method according to the invention, FIG. 5A is a view similar to FIG. 1, of an alternative embodiment. 5B shows the support before removal of the antenna and the chip, FIGS. 6A to 6D illustrate different cavity configurations, FIG. FIG. 6A, and FIG. 8 illustrates a method step in the an adhesive is present in the cavity before placement of the chip or the antenna, - Figures 9 and 10 illustrate alternative embodiments of the structure. FIGS. 1 and 2 show an example of structure 1, also called inlay, according to an exemplary embodiment of the invention. Structure 1 comprises a support 2, preferably monolayer as illustrated, made of a material which may or may not be fibrous. The support 2 is preferably a paper layer comprising cellulosic fibers and / or cotton or linen. The paper layer may also comprise synthetic fibers, especially in order to enhance the mechanical strength. The material of the support may in particular be such as described in WO2011 / 135497, such a material which is particularly suitable for the formation of cavities by ultrasonic compression, in particular at a frequency of between 20 kHz and 1 MHz.
The support material may thus comprise: at least 30% of natural fibers such as cellulosic fibers and / or cotton fibers, with a proportion of short fibers that is shorter than long fibers; a binder chosen from thermoplastic polymers of Tg measured according to the standard IS011357, between -25 ° C and 40 ° C, the binder being preferably precipitated in bulk and preferably selected from a styrene butadiene copolymer, an acrylic polymer, a vinyl acetate and their copolymers, a latex, a starch compound, a mineral filler compound or a mixture thereof, - a softening agent, preferably selected from glycerine, urea or urea nitrate, - between 8 and 15% of synthetic fibers in bulk in the fibrous base of the support, the synthetic fibers being preferably selected from thermoplastic materials such as polyamide, polyester, polyolefin and / or a mixture of such fibers a filler chosen from mineral fillers, in particular carbonates, in particular calcium, talc, kaolin, alumina hydrate, titanium dioxide, sodium silicate and mixtures thereof, the charge being preferably an absorbent filler having an oil absorption capacity greater than or equal to 30 ml / 100g.
The support 2 comprises a first cavity 6 which houses an antenna 7 and a second cavity 4 which houses a chip 5, for example read / write without contact. The chip 5 comprises for example a memory and a microprocessor. The outer shape of the chip can be varied. Preferably, the chip is of non-stepped form, thus not being a module chip.
The chip is preferably of rectangular or square parallelepiped shape, or of any other geometrical shape. The use of a paper layer as a support can facilitate the realization of the antenna by printing, screen printing, unwinding or transfer. Where appropriate, the antenna is deposited according to a technique of ultrasonic burial known as "wire embedding", that is to say that it is introduced into the cavity 6 and then at least partially buried in the support 2 being pressed against the bottom of the cavity 6. The antenna 4 can still be pressed against an adhesive present in the cavity 6.
As explained below, the antenna 7 is preferably wound out of the support 2 and deposited in a block in the cavity 6. For example, the antenna 7 consists of several turns joined together integrally. In the example considered, the antenna 7 has two ends 7a and 7b which are electrically connected to the chip 5. In a variant, the chip 5 comprises an integrated antenna and the antenna 7 is electromagnetically coupled to the antenna of the antenna. chip, in which case the antenna 7 does not have to be electrically connected to the chip 5. The depth of the second cavity 4 is not necessarily greater than or equal to the depth of the first cavity 6. In fact, chips with connection pads such as those known by the names "chip flipchip" or "chip with bumps" have a thickness of about 80 microns, against about 300 microns thick for a so-called "chip module" chip with grid of connection and filling ("leadfi-ame" and "potting" in English), while the thickness of a copper conductor antenna wire, with its insulating sheath and optionally an outer adhesive layer 15 in the case an antenna contiguous turns glued together, has a thickness of about 110 microns. Modules chips are described in the publication W02011 / 135497 page 3, line 29 to page 4, line 24. The support 2 can be assembled to another layer 10, as illustrated in FIG. 3, for example using an adhesive disposed between the support 2 and the layer 10. The latter can belong to the cover of a passport or to a page of a set of sheets and protects the antenna and the electronic chip. It can be seen from the examination of FIG. 3 that the additional layer 10 may not have a decrease in its thickness e in line with the antenna 7 and the chip 5, because of the presence of the cavities 6 and 4, pre-existing before assembling the layers 2 and 10, and the fact that the antenna 7 of the chip 5 do not substantially exceed the upper face 2a of the support 2 before the assembly of the layers 2 and 10. FIGS. 4A to 4C show an example of a manufacturing method according to the invention suitable for producing the structure 1 illustrated in FIGS. 1 and 2. In a first step, illustrated in FIG. 4A, a tool 15 is used to form the cavities 4 and 6, this tool being for example chosen according to the material used for the manufacture of the support 2. The cavities 4 and 6 can be made mechanically or thermally.
The mechanical way may comprise a removal of material or not. It is preferable that the realization of the cavity is carried out without removal of material. This can make it possible to better control the surface appearance and to densify the support under each cavity thus formed, which can improve the protection of the chip 5 and the antenna 7. The disadvantage of a machining is that the cavity formed by the cutting tool rotated is not always perfectly flat over the entire surface of the cavity, which may interfere locally insertion of the chip or antenna, this problem can be encountered as well on a support of polymer material than on a paper support, synthetic or not. In addition, in the case of a support of fibrous material, fibers are likely to be torn off the support by the cutting tool so that the bottom of the cavity is then not as flat as desirable. When the cavity is made by perforation, the cavity is open, which does not allow on the one hand a completely satisfactory protection of the chip or the antenna and on the other hand requires the use of a transfer sheet which has the role of conveyor of the chip or the antenna to avoid him to pass through the hole, which complicates the manufacture. Thermal or laser treatment is expensive and the treatment is relatively long to obtain a cavity of about 150 microns depth or more over an area of a few mm 2, for example from 8 to 20 mm 2; the cavity can also be blackened and burnt, which can be seen in transmitted light on the final article, and makes the chip easier to locate. In addition, the support material has a thermally affected zone, which is more fragile and extends around the cavity. Finally, the control of both the depth of the cavity and the remaining thickness of the material is not simple, and moreover it is necessary to work in a hood in order to suck up the fumes released during the treatment and protect the staff and surrounding equipment. The formation of cavities 4 and 6 by ultrasonic compression methods is therefore particularly preferred; the formation time of a cavity is very short, for example less than 0.5s per cavity; the cost of the tool and its realization are inexpensive and simple, because the tool can be shaped directly according to the shape of the cavity or cavities that one wants to obtain; the material of the support is not damaged or weakened in the area where the cavity or cavities are formed. The support material 2 is thus preferably chosen to be compatible with an ultrasonic forming process, and preferably comprises for this purpose the previously described formulation (a mixture of cellulose fibers, filler, latex and synthetic fibers) . An ultrasonic compression machine is composed of a mechanical frame and one or more solder heads available commercially, for example proposed by MECASONIC and / or I CO. Once the cavities 4 and 6 have been made, the chip 5 and the antenna 7 can be put in place, as illustrated in FIGS. 4B and 4C. The insertion of the antenna can be carried out in various ways, for example by conventional techniques such as burial by ultrasound, screen printing, winding or postponement, in particular as in Example 1 described below, and the connection with the chip 15 can be made by melting a metal or using a conductive glue. In the example of FIGS. 1 and 2, the ends 7a and 7b of the antenna 7 rest on an area of the support 2 devoid of a cavity; however, for only two strands, the possible extra thickness created by these strands on the article is low. In the variant shown in FIG. 5A, a third cavity 8 is made between the cavities 6 and 4 to receive the ends 7a and 7b of the antenna wire 7, and to avoid any risk of excess thickness at the level of the antenna strands. The three cavities 4, 6 and 8 are preferably formed in a single step. The depth of the cavity 8 may be the same as that of the cavity 6. It can be seen in FIG. 6A that the cavity 4 may have, while the chip 5 is in place, a dimension / c. slightly larger than the dimension lp of the chip 5, by the manufacturing method used, which provides for the realization of the cavity 4 prior to the introduction of the chip 5 therein, and not the formation of the cavity simply by burying the chip in the support material. The difference between the dimensions lp and /, comes for example because the chip 5 does not have the same shape, seen from above, as the cavity, as illustrated in FIG. 7A: In FIG. illustrated that the cavity 4 can be through. In this case, the cavity 4 is advantageously made with a shoulder 9 on which the chip 5 bears. Such an embodiment of the cavity is more particularly suitable for a module chip.
Le support utilisé dans cet exemple est par exemple de même composition que le premier support fibreux divulgué dans la demande FR 2 918 485.FIG. 6C illustrates the possibility for the cavity 4 to present a shape different from that of the chip 5, at least as regards the bottom 4a of the cavity 4, which does not marry by the shape of the face opposite the FIG. 6D illustrates the possibility for the chip 5 to have a thickness greater than the depth of the cavity 4. However, it is preferable that the depth of the cavity 4 exceeds the thickness of the chip 5 The cavity 4 can receive, before placement of the chip 5, an adhesive 21, and the introduction of the chip 5 into the cavity 4 can cause the creep of this adhesive. In non-illustrated variants, the cavity 4 of the examples of FIGS. 6B to 6D is replaced by the cavity 6 and the chip 5 by the antenna 7. Thus, the cavity 6 may have a cavity width greater than that of the antenna. For example, there is a cavity 1.1 times the antenna. The bottom 6a of the cavity 6 may be flat, as illustrated in Figure 4c in particular, while the facing face 7c of the antenna 7 has a corrugated shape; the amounts 6b of the cavity 6 can be straight, while the flanks 7d of the antenna 7 are rounded. According to the invention, it may be provided to deposit an additional adhesive layer 20, for example hot-melt ("hotmelt"), on the face of the support 2 carrying the chip 5 and the antenna 7, after the latter have been deposited on the support, as illustrated in Figures 9 and 10. This layer 20 is conventionally used for adhesion to the outer cover (textile or synthetic) of a passport for example. Advantageously, the thickness of this additional adhesive layer 20 is chosen to compensate for that of the connection support 5b in the case of a module chip 5 comprising an encapsulated circuit 5a and a connection support 5b, as illustrated in FIG. 10 The adhesive of the additional layer 20 may in particular fill the first cavity 6, compensating the thickness of the antenna 7 if necessary if it is thicker than the cavity 6 is deep and can also fill the cavity hosting the chip. Filling the adhesive cavities may help to ensure that the chip and / or antenna is not visible on the security document including the structure, in particular that the cavities are not visible in reflected or grazing light on the outer cover. The method of manufacturing a structure as illustrated in FIG. 10 with compensation of the connection support 5b of the chip 5 by a layer of adhesive 20, for example hot-melt ("hotmelt"), may comprise the following steps : - removal of the antenna by embedding wire embedding, depositing the antenna with coiled turns on the coil coil or depositing the antenna by printing (screen printing) ; 10 - realization of the cavity housing the chip by compression via ultrasound or laser ablation; - Depositing the chip in the cavity; - assembly of the antenna on the chip by a conductive adhesive or by welding; depositing a glue, especially hot-melt glue, on the face of the support carrying the antenna; in the event of a soldering step of the antenna on the chip, the module may be slightly sunk in the substrate, in particular paper, depending on the pressure exerted by the welding head, the pressure exerted on the chip causing a compression of the substrate located under the chip. The glue compensates in particular at least a part of the antenna and / or the chip, and in particular the connection support of the chip; 20 - assembly of the structure with a cover, for example a passport, thanks to the hot melt glue. Advantageously, the encapsulated circuit of the chip has its thickness compensated by the cavity 4, as illustrated in FIG. 10; at least a part of the connection support 5a has its thickness compensated by the hot-melt adhesive layer 20. The assembly formed by the structure and the cover is resistant to damage to its integrity because the module is not accessible because 'trapped between the blanket and the structure; the encapsulated circuit of the chip is embedded in the glue, so that a rupture of the module and / or the antenna occurs when an attempt is made to separate the cover and the structure. Examples Example 1 This example is to be compared with the teaching of the application WO 2011/1335497, particularly with regard to the choice of the support material, which may be as described in this publication. By any suitable technique, and particularly by compression at an ultrasonic frequency, thermo-compression, embossing or stamping, is formed in the support, monolayer, a central cavity for the chip and an auxiliary cavity for the antenna, surrounding the central cavity . The central cavity may have a parallelepiped shape and the chip may be a chip other than a module chip. An adhesive may optionally be deposited in these two cavities, for example a hot melt adhesive based on polyurethane. Then, the chip is deposited in the central cavity and the antenna wire is unwound around the chip in the other cavity. The ends of the antenna wire are soldered to the chip or glued with a conductive adhesive. Alternatively, at least two antenna turns are glued together to form an antenna with at least two integral turns, which can be manipulated. It is possible to use an antenna wire whose conductor is made of copper, covered with an insulating sheath and on the sheath an adhesive; the antenna wire is heated and the coiled turns in contact with each other contiguously. This antenna is connected to the chip by welding to form an RFID device also called transponder, which is then housed in the support comprising the two cavities. Alternatively, the central cavity forms a shoulder for housing a staged module module chip; the cavity can be open on one side of the structure or through. A punch may be used to form the central opening and compression to form the shoulder. EXAMPLE 2 This example is to be compared with the teaching of the application FR 2 918 485, especially with regard to the material used to form the support. Starting from a fibrous support about 250um thick made on a flat-bed or round-shaped paper machine, with a synthetic fiber content of at least 10%. The support used in this example is, for example, of the same composition as the first fibrous support disclosed in application FR 2 918 485.
About 10% of the final weight of the paper is composed of mineral fillers introduced into the dough before or after refining. The fibrous support is glued to the heart using a size press and a binder. The binder may be composed of a latex, starch and mineral fillers.
The fibrous support thus produced is then impregnated on a second machine, or in line on the first machine, using a coating technology with air knife, conventional impregnation, or MSP (Metering Size Press). The impregnation makes it possible to obtain symmetrical support, with a core zone composed of the binder applied in size press and two peripheral zones composed of the impregnating sauce. The support thus obtained can then be coated by techniques known to those skilled in the art, for example by coating with an air knife, bar coating, etc. Cavities for the chip and the antenna are formed by ultrasonic compression The antenna is made by screen printing. The chip is deposited in the cavity with the aid of a gripper tool, for example the DS9000 model manufactured by Datacon. The connection between the chip and the antenna is made using an anisotropic conductive adhesive. The monolayer media is assembled with a paper cover on one side and 20 with a set of leaflets on the other to form an electronic passport. The invention is not limited to the examples which have just been described. The examples illustrated also apply to a support made of a non-fibrous material, for example a non-fibrous synthetic material such as that sold by the PPG Industries company called Teslin. For example, a 100% synthetic and sufficiently compressible support for formation of the antenna cavity can be used. The number of turns of the antenna may be different, being preferably between 2 and 8 The expression "comprising one" must be understood as being synonymous with "having at least one" unless the opposite is specified.
