Abstract

An apparatus comprises a frame value generator to generate, for each of at least two signal streams, a signal value for a frame of audio signal values from the stream, an alignment generator determining at least one indicator value for each of the two signal streams, dependent on the signal value for a frame of audio signal values for the signal stream, and a synchronizer to synchronize one signal stream to another signal stream dependent on indicator values. An equivalent method is also described. The two signal streams may be received from different recording apparatus, and the indicator generated based on first and second stream correlation signal values; the indicator may comprise the ratio of variance and mean correlation values. The alignment means may select the two streams with lowest indicator value as a base stream. Also claimed is an apparatus and method wherein a selected display variable - such as recording apparatus, location or direction — is transmitted to a further apparatus, a signal stream is received from the further apparatus comprising a signal stream received from a recording apparatus synchronised with a further signal stream from a further recording apparatus, and the signal stream is displayed.
