Abstract

Lead sheet is mounted to a surface of a building by positioning an apertured steel plate 1 over a fixing point in the lead sheet, the fixing point being defined by an opening in the sheet, and mounting fixing means, such as a nail or screw, in the aperture and through the opening into an underlying portion of the surface to fix the apertured plate and lead sheet to the surface. A secondary portion of lead sheet of area greater than the area of the apertured plate is mounted over the plate and fixing means. Peripheral regions of the secondary portion are welded to the first lead sheet. The cross-section of the opening in the lead sheet relative to that of the aperture in the steel plate allows movement of the lead sheet relative to the fixing means to accommodate differential expansion or contraction of the lead sheet relative to the building surface over a range of ambient temperatures.
