An apparatus for mixing or disintegrating granular materials has a vertical drum 2 having a flared or hopper-like upper end, an inverted frusto-conical reduced outlet 3 (which may be detachable) at the lower end, the inside of the drum being furnished with radially inwardly projecting rods 6, and a rotatable axial vertical shaft 4 carrying radial rods 5. There may be an inspection manhole and cover 13,14. Wet and pasty materials may be supplied to the apparatus from a hopper 2A discharging on to a rotating table 15 from which the material is swept by a fixed plough 17 on to an endless belt 16; other materials may be added as by the hopper and belt conveyer 2B, 18.
