Abstract

1,054,303. Melt supply apparatus for films and filaments. EASTMAN KODAK CO. June 7, 1963 [July 20, 1962 (2)], No. 22716/63. Heading B5B. [Also in Division C3] Filaments are produced by forcing a molten mixture formed from pellets of or finely divided α-olefine polymer and pellets of a high molecular weight polyester of a glycol and an aromatic dicarboxylic acid, through the orifices of a spinneret. Sheets and films are produced by extruding the above molten mixture through the orifice of an extruder. The above materials can be produced continuously by feeding small rods of the α-olefine polymer to the feed hopper of an extruder provided with a screw conveyer adapted to rotate in a hollow cylinder and provided with internal heating so as to melt the polymer; polyester pellets are then fed as a side stream into the α-olefine polymer by a tubular feeder provided with an internal rotating helical screw, which conveys the pellets through the tube, and with a mechanism which causes the tube to shake; the molten mass is then extruded in the desired form.
