Abstract
1,142,425. Emulsion polymerization. STAUFFER CHEMICAL CO. 3 Oct., 1967 [4 May, 1967], No. 44982/67. Heading C3P. In the emulsion polymerization or co-polymerization of vinyl halides, particularly vinyl chloride, using a water-soluble catalyst, there is used as surfactant a phosphate of the formula (RO) x PO(OM) 3-x where R is a C 3 -C 20 alkyl group which may contain a phenyl substituent, M is alkali metal or ammonium and x is 1 or 2. Ammonium persulphate is preferred as catalyst, but peroxides, other per-salts or redox mixtures can be used. A seed latex may be added to the reaction mixture.
