Abstract

1,237,223. Therapeutic inhaler. ABBOTT LABORATORIES. 6 Nov., 1968 [19 Sept., 1968], No. 52681/68. Heading A5T. An inhaler 10 comprises a tubular body 11 with a projecting mouthpiece 12, the body containing absorbent means 19 to store a liquid volatile drug, a first opening 20 between the mouthpiece and the absorbent means 19, means 21 to prevent the absorbent means from obstructing opening 20 or entering mouthpiece 12, and second openings 27 to permit air inhaled through the mouthpiece to pass over the absorbent means, the first and second openings 20, 27 being so dimensioned that when the first opening 20 is covered by the finger of an inhaling patient an effective analgesic vapour concentration is provided to the patient and when the opening is not covered an ineffective concentration is provided. A cap 22 comprises a ring portion 23 with a peripheral ridge 24 and a plate 26 linked to the ring 23 by bridges (not shown) to form the openings 27 therein, through which a liquid drug may be poured into the absorbent material. The inhaler may be fitted to a face mask.
