Abstract

1,237,320. Two-part couplings. AMP Inc. 22 Dec., 1969 [7 Jan., 1969], No. 62260/69. Heading H2E. In an electrical connector housing 2 of insulating material a plurality of parallel passageways 17 each accommodate an electrical pin contact 1 which is crimped to a conductor wire 3 and has an apertured ferrule 32 for compressing a portion of a sealing sleeve 36, of compressible plastics or rubber, around the insulation 38 of the wire 3, the remote ridged exterior portion of the sleeve 36 being compressed by the inside wall 18 of the passageway 17 and the contact 1 being positioned in the passageway 17 by a front stop comprising a wall 22 and an adjustable rear stop comprising a plate 44, of plastics or metal, which is pressed against the rear wall of the housing 2 by a spring 48 and a bolt 10 extending through an elongate slot. The plate 44 has lances 50 which engage with notches 54, 56 in the rear wall of the housing, and keyhole apertures each adjacent a passageway 17. When the lances 50 are engaged in notches 54, the wide part of each keyhole is in alignment with its corresponding passageway and the contact, wiring and sealing sleeve can be inserted and when the lances 50 are engaged in notches 56 the narrow part of each keyhole is in alignment with the passageway locking in the contact and sealing sleeve. In a further embodiment (Fig. 7, not shown), the plate 44 is circular and rotatable for alignment of the wide and narrow parts of the keyholes.
