Abstract

1,237,323. Container closures. SCHMAL. BACH - LUBECA - WERKE A.G. 14 May, 1969, No. 24584/69. Heading B8T. A closed elastic sealing and opening ring 8 which may be of natural rubber or synthetic composition is introduced in a liquid or plastic condition into the sealing space formed by the outer roll 2 of the container 1 and the edge surface 6 of the container lid 3 and allowed to set in situ. The sealing composition is introduced when the combination of lid and container is inverted, the sealing space thus forming an annular opening into which the composition is poured from the top, Fig. 4d (not shown). A gripping tab 9 of identical material to the sealing ring is introduced immediately after the introduction of the sealing composition thus sealing jointly with the composition. However the gripping tab may be previously attached by means of adhesive 14 to the container body 1, thus ensuring correct positioning of the tab on introduction of the liquid or plastic composition. The lid end has a closed rolled rim 11 which can be effected either before the injection of the sealing composition or after, thus providing resistance to bursting pressure. To open the container, the gripping tab 9 is released from the adhesive 14 and drawn obliquely downward. The sealing and opening ring can thus be drawn out through the joint 10.
