Abstract
1,237,604. Direction-responsive switches. CROUZET. 22 Jan., 1969 [22 Jan., 1968], No. 3726/69. Heading HlN. A device for selecting the direction of rotation of a synchronous motor 2, of the single-winding magnetized-rotor kind which is self-starting in a random direction, comprises a selector switch KS for energizing the winding of motor 2 via a selected one of two spring-blade contacts 11 and 12 which is opened if the motor starts in the wrong direction. The motor 2 drives a pinion 7 on a shaft 1 on which is freely pivoted a rocker 3 carrying an idler pinion 8 in mesh with pinion 7. When the motor starts the inertia of pinion 8 causes the rocker to tilt and a projection 4 thereon opens the respective one of contacts 11, 12 which, if it is the energized one, causes the motor to stop, whereupon the rocker is restored and the motor starts again-this action recurring until the motor starts in the desired direction. In the embodiment of Fig. 1 (not shown), the motor output is taken off the pinion 8 which rocks to mesh with a different gear train for each direction of running, and in order to maintain the rocker 3 tilted after starting an oscillating-anchor escapement (13, 14) is provided as a brake on pinion 8.
