Abstract
1,270,836. Films. ELASTOMER A.G. 19 March, 1969 [10 June, 1968; 13 Nov., 1968], No. 14523/69. Heading B5B. [Also in Division C3] Powder blends of polyvinyl chloride and a thermoplastic polyurethane prepared by suspending particles of polyvinyl chloride in a liquid reaction mixture of components capable of reacting with each other to form a solid thermoplastic polyurethane, maintaining the polyvinyl chloride particles in suspension in the reaction mixture until reaction of components to form a solid thermoplastic polyurethane occurs, and cooling the product to interrupt the reaction after solidification of the thermoplastic polyurethane but before it is no longer processable by thermoplastics methods (see Division C3) may be formed into films by mixing the blend on mixing rollers having a temperature of 170-180‹ C. and a friction of the mixing roller of +5 r.p.m., calendering and embossing the resulting film on a calender at a calender roller temperature of about 200‹ C. and an embossing roller temperature of about 150‹ C., cooling the finished film and then annealing it in an oven at 80‹ C. In an alternative procedure films may be produced from the powder blend by plasticizing and homogenizing the blend in a single-worm extruder and after extrusion the product is transferred through a wide slit jet to a calender where it is calendered as above.
