1283473 Taking up slack in flexible elements UNITED STATES ATOMIC ENERGY COMMISSION 23 Feb 1970 [27 March 1969] 8673/70 Heading B8B Apparatus for guiding and taking up slack in a cable or hose 2 extending between a fixed point 3 and a rotating part 5 comprises a ground cable drum 7 attached to the part 5 and a weighted block and tackle arrangement 1, 1<SP>1</SP>, 14 through which the cable passes prior to being wound on the drum. The block and tackle arrangement comprises a multigroove sheave 1 slideable axially of the drum 7 along a guide bar 11, and a weighted multigroove sheave 1 suspended from the sheave 1 by the cable falls. The sheave 1<SP>1</SP> and its weight 14 are vertically guided by a rod 23 secured to a nut 20 on which the sheave 1 is mounted and which is mounted on a lead screw 19 for moving the block and tackle along the drum in proportion to drum rotation. Several cables with their associated block and tackle arrangements may be wound on different portions of a common drum 7, separate lead screws 19 being provided for each arrangement.
