Abstract

1286830 Container filling device ATO Inc 14 Oct 1969 [14 Oct 1968 6 May 1969] 50465/69 Heading B8T A container filling device for counterpressure filling machines has a substantially vertically extending bore having a valve seat 29 towards one end, the bore at its lower end being adapted to engage the upper end of a container, e.g. a bottle 17, a valve 26 also extending vertically for reciprocal movement to and from engagement with said seat and a counterpressure tube 28, associated with the valve, extending vertically in opposite directions therefrom, a liquid distributer 71 depending from said valve and having a plurality of blades extending radially from said tube, each twisted in a circumferential direction towards the next. The device may be mounted in a CO 2 pressurized beverage tank 12, a sleeve 21, having apertures 25, 125 and encompassing part of the bore, locating a sliding plug 24 through which the tube 28 passes. The valve seat is also located in the sleeve whilst a further valve member 36 with top apertures (38), Fig. 2 (not shown), and bottom conical walls (40) is urged upwardly against a block 34 by a spring 37. When a gas valve 18, at the top of the counterpressure tube 28, is opened, CO 2 under pressure is applied to the bottle, this pressure, acting upwardly on the bottom surface of valve member 26, together with the force exerted by the spring 33 lifting valve member 26 off its seat 29, as in Fig. 3 (not shown) causing beverage to flow from the tank via the apertures 25, 125 and the space between block 34 and a shoulder 23, through the apertures (38) forcing valve member 36 downwardly, as in Fig. 4 (not shown), and through the annular space between walls (40) and (41), the distributer 71 causing a helical flow into the bottle 17. Beverage flow stops automatically when the counterpressure in the bottle is equal to the pressure in the tank 12. The spring 37 then closes valve member 36 and valve member 26 is subsequently closed mechanically.
