Abstract

1332425 Hydrogen bromide KAO SOAP CO Ltd 29 Dec 1971 [30 Dec 1970] 60325/71 Heading C1A Hydrogen bromide is prepared by reacting an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal bromide and concentrated sulphuric acid in a constant boiling mixture of hydrogen bromide of water, condensing the vapours and collecting the hydrogen bromide in gaseous form. Specified bromides are those of sodium, potassium, calcium and magnesium, and the sulphuric acid is of concentration between 90 and 98% by weight. Any bromine present in the product may be removed by passage through an absorber containing, e.g. tetralin or toluene.
