Abstract
1432200 Aqueous synthetic resin coating compositions HITACHI Ltd 27 Dec 1973 [27 Dec 1972] 59825/73 Headings C3B C3P and C3R [Also in Division C7] An aqueous composition for electrophoretic coating (see Division C7) comprises an aqueous bath in which powder of size 10-100 microns of a water-insoluble resin and 10-200 parts by wt. per 100 parts of this resin of a watersoluble or -dispersible polycarboxylic acid resin deposited on the surface of the first resin have been dispersed under conditions which prevent agglomeration. In examples the compositions contain (1) particles of 75 Á or less of a bisphenol- A epoxy, dicyandiamide, carbon, silica and PV butyral together with an alkyd based on trimellitic acid, diethylene glycol, adipic acid and tall oil fatty acid; (2) the epoxy defined above together with a copolymer of styrene, methyl methacrylate, hydroxyethyl methacrylate, methacrylic acid and hexamethoxymethylolmelamine; (3) the alkyd defined above together with a polyester of particle size 50 Á or less based on isphthalic acid, neopentyl glycol, trimethylolpropane, "Cardura E" (Registered Trade Mark) and pyromellitic acid; (4) the alkyd defined above together with an acrylic resin of particle size 75 Á or less and based on styrene, butyl acrylate, ethylacrylate, glycidyl methacrylate and adipic acid; (5) the epoxy defined above and an acrylic copolymer based on methyl methacrylate, ethyl acrylate and methacrylic acid.
