Abstract
1434017 Amino-silane-modified silicone textile-treating compositions DOW CORNING Ltd 10 July 1973 [15 July 1972] 33224/72 Heading C3T [Also in Divisions D1-D2] The handle and shrink resistance of keratinous fabrics, e.g. woollens, is improved by applying thereto 0À1-10 wt. per cent of a composition containing the product obtained by mixing (A) a polydiorganosiloxane diol of M.W. at least 750, preferably 20,000-90,000, wherein at least 50% of the organo groups are methyl, any others being C 2-30 hydrocarbyl or halohydrocarbyl radicals with (B) a silane RSiR<SP>1</SP> n X 3-n wherein R is a monovalent radical composed of CHN and optionally O atoms containing at least 2 amino groups attached to Si via an Si-C bond, R<SP>1</SP> is an alkyl or aryl radical, X is a C 1-4 alkoxy radical and n is 0 or 1, or a partial hydrolysate thereof, and optionally (C) a silane R<SP>11</SP> m SiZ 4-m wherein R<SP>11</SP> is H or a C 1-18 hydrocarbyl or halohydrocarbyl radical, Z is a C 1-4 alkoxy or alkoxyalkoxy radical and m is 0 or 1, or a partial hydrolysate thereof. The composition is usually applied dissolved in an organic solvent. Preferably (B) is 0À5-15 wt. per cent of (A) and (C) is 1-20 wt. per cent of (A) plus (B). A siloxane condensation catalyst e.g. a Ti compound or a metal or organometal carboxylate may be used with or instead of (C). In the examples wool or chlorinated wool fabrics are treated with a 3% solution in toluene or perchlorethylene of compositions containing 5-16 wt. per cent of with or without 1À5-5 wt. per cent of CH 3 Si(OCH 3 ) 3 or a partial hydrolysate thereof, and a polydimethylsiloxane diol of M.W. 45,000 or 60,000 to 100%. In variations the alkoxy groups in the aminosilane are (C 2 H 5 O) 3 , (C 4 H 9 O) 3 , (OC 6 H 13 ) 3 or (OCH 3 )(OC 8 H 17 ) 2 [Example 3], the aminoalkyl group is [Example 8] or the component (C) is Si(OC 2 H 5 ) 4 , Si(OC 3 H 7 ) 4 or ethyl polysilicate [Example 6].
