Abstract

1452425 Fire extinguisher TEXTRON Inc 2 Dec 1974 [5 Aug 1974] 52082/74 Heading A5A A fire extinguisher comprises a sealed container for fire extinguishing fluid 54, discharge tubes 30, 32 sealed at one end to, an in communication with the interior of, the container and at their ends remote therefrom are attached closure caps 70, sealed to the tubes by heat sensitive elements 72 sandwiched between each cap and tube, which under fire conditions melt and allow the caps to be expelled by the pressure of the extinguishant, each tube 30, 32 being of a predetermined length so that the melting of 72 is not delayed under fire conditions by conduction of heat away from 72 into the fluid bulk. Elements 72 are preferably of metal alloy. A sleeve 78 attached to cap 70 and loosely and slidably fitted over each discharge tube acts as an indicator to show when the cap has been blown off. The fire extinguishant is preferably CBrF 3 .
