Abstract

1455374 Laminates KURARAY CO Ltd 14 Feb 1974 [17 Feb 1973] 6799/74 Heading B5N [Also in Divisions B1, C3 and D1] Laminates are prepared by bonding an artificial leather substrate to a surface of a porous sheet material comprising a polymer, preferably a polyurethane, having in one surface thereof 30 to 10,000 microholes of 0À5 to 100 Á in diameter per sq. cm. and substantially no holes whose diameters fall outside this range, most of the microholes communicating with the internal pores of the sheet material, and in which the said one surface and/or the other surface is (are) smooth or embossed. The artificial leather substrate may be (i) a fibre-mat comprising mainly bundles of fine-denier fibres of synthetic polymer, each fibre in the bundle being less than 0À5 denier in fineness, and/or oriented multihole fibres of synthetic polymer or (2) a sheet material comprising the fibre-mats of (1) and a non- porous or porous polymer comprising an elastomer, the polymer being distributed in the spaces between the fibres in the fibre-mats. In a typical example (11) a porous sheet material having microholes on its surface is buffed on the reverse side and brought into contact with an artificial leather substrate which had been coated with a polyurethane adhesive. The artificial leather substrate was prepared by forming multicorein-a-sheet composite filaments from nylon-6 and polyethylene, the latter constituting the sheath crimping and cutting the filaments to form staple fibres, forming non-woven fabrics from the fibres, impregnating the fabrics with a solution of polyurethane elastomer, coagulating the solution, drying and then treating the so-formed impregnated fabrics with hot toluene to dissolve off the polyethylene. The laminates so-produced may be used in the production of shoes.
