Abstract

A cooler for alcoholic beverages has a water bath 5 in thermal communication with at least one passageway of the beverage to be cooled, and a refrigeration unit having an evaporator/heat exchanger 19 and a condenser 23. Heat transfer means is provided between the water bath and the evaporator, and the heat transfer means may include a liquid pump 9, heat transfer liquid, liquid reservoir 7, and cooling coil 11. The heat transfer means is connected by releasable connections 29, 31, which may be self-sealing, and which allow physical separation of the refrigeration unit from the water bath. The arrangement allows the beverage cooler to be arranged as two modules: a first module which for example includes the water bath, heat transfer liquid reservoir, cooling coil and circulation pump; and a second module which includes the evaporator/heat exchanger and other refrigeration unit components. The arrangement allows ease of module replacement in the event of breakdown or maintenance.
