Abstract

A continuous process is disclosed for making heather yarn from continuous filament polyester feed yarn and continuous filament polyamide feed yarn. The polyester feed yarn has a residual draw ratio of 1.6 to 2.0, and the polyamide feed yarn has a residual draw ratio of 104 to 120 percent of the polyester feed yarn. The process includes combining the yarns, false twist texturing and drawing the combined yarn, entangling the combined, textured and drawn yarn in an air-jet intermingling device, and withdrawing the heather yarn so formed. The heather yarn may optionally be heat-set.
