Abstract

To prevent a child trapping its fingers, a flexible structure occludes the aperture that occurs between a hinged door and the jamb, whenever such a door is opened; the structure which may extend the full height of the door, is a v-shaped plastics strip flexibly hinged to two flanges bearing pressure adhesive, by which it is mounted.

Description

CILDSAFE DOOR HINGE SHIELD This invention relates to a child-safe door hinge shield.
When a household door, either internal or external, of the hinged type, is opened or closed, there is a danger that a child may trap its fingers between the Jamb of the door and the part Of the door itself nearest the hinges.
According to the present invention a flexible structure occludes the aperture that occurs between a hinged-type door and the jamb to which the hinges are attached whenever such a door is opened. The shielding structure may extend the zull height of the door. It is fastened to the door and to the jamb on which the door is hung. The shield is flexible, so that it does not impede the free movement of the door.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which Figure A shows the shield itself Figure B shows the shield in position, fastened to the door and its jamb.
Referring to the drawing the shield consists of a V-shaped plastic strip with two flanges. The strip is flexible along three lines, A - B, C - D, and B - F.
To the outer surfaces of the two flanges are applied adhesive pads, of the type that is covered by a protective film until needed.
The shield can be cut to length to suit any height of door.
The shield is mounted by fastening one of the flanges, by its adhesive pad, to the jamb on which the door is hung, and fastening the other flange, by its adhesive pad, to the door.
Shields may be mounted on both sides of the door. If the hinges protrude beyond the surface of the door on one side, they will be covered by the shield's V-shaped structure.

Claims (2)

1. A flexible structure occludes the aperture that occurs between a hinged type door and the jamb to which the hinges are attached, whenever such a door is opened. The shielding structure may extend the full height of the door. It is fastened to the surface of the door and to the-jamb on which the door is hung. The shield is flexible, so that it does not impede the free movement of the door.
2. A child-safe door hinge shield substantially as described herein with reference to Figures 1 and 2 of the accompanying drawing.
