Abstract

242,588. Carr Fastener Co., (Assignees of Carr, F. S.). Nov. 10, 1924, [Convention date]. Stud - and - slot fasteners; pressbutton fasteners. - In a two-part curtain fastener of the kind described in Specification 232,934 in which a resilient stud engages a rigid countersunk socket, the locking means for preventing the collapse of the stud head for release is carried by the socket. The stud comprises a base 15 from which is pressed a long shank 8 split at 14 to form a relatively rigid part 11 and relatively collapsable parts 12 bent inwardly at 27 to form the stud head which engages the inwardly-turned lip of the socket 1 which is sunk into a frame 3. An outer plate 18 is spun over the base 15 at 19, Fig. 6 to secure the two together and the plate 18 carries lugs 23 which pass through the material of the curtain 22 into slots in a washer 24 and are bent over to attach the whole to the curtain, Fig. 5. A press-button 16 with a flange to limit its outward movement, and a shank 17 is carried bv the stud. To fasten the curtain to the frame 3, the stud member is pressed towards the socket member, the stud head slipping into the rim of the socket and forcing back the spring-pressed member 6 until the stud parts 12 collapse and snap past the lip and then expand to normal position. The member 6 then enters the end of the stud head and prevents the collapse thereof necessary to release the stud as shown in Fig. 2. To release, the member 6 is removed from the stud head by pressing down the press-button 16, the shank 17 of which engages the member 6, and pulling the curtain to remove the stud from the socket. The stud has a shoulder 9 to limit the amount of insertion into the socket. The relatively rigid part 11 of the stud enables engagement to be effected by a sideways levering action when the curtain has shrunk so that the stud is not correctly aligned with the socket.
