Abstract

An automatic light cleaning system comprises a cleaning media 3 that is moved along the length or width of the light, lens or diffuser 2 from one end to the other, effectively wiping or brushing away any dust or dirt particles on the light, lens or diffuser. The system uses either an electric or pneumatic power source to movement the cleaning media 3 along the length or width of the unit 2 to be cleaned. The periodicy or frequency of operation is adjustable in the systems control.

Description

When strip lights (or any light emitting units) are mounted in hard to access places like inside tunnels or high up on factory / building ceilings, maintaining the cleanliness of the light emitting units or their covers (diffusers) or lenses becomes a costly and difficult exercise often requiring tall access platforms and I or the closure of sections of infrastructure, such as tunnels, in order that safe access to these lights maybe obtained. This invention provides a mechanical means of cleaning the light emitting unit, either directly on the bulb / diodes or directly on its lens / cover I diffuser through an automated process. -, The invention moves a set of cleaning media along the length or width of the light or lens or diffuser from one end to the other, effectively wiping I brushing away any dust or dirt particles on the light or lens or diffuser. The invention uses a power source either electric or pneumatic to control the motion from point to point along the length or width of the unit to be cleaned. The periodicy or frequency of operation is adjustable in the systems control.
For example: the system can do one cleaning stroke ( operation) per day or multiple cleaning strokes (operations) per hour.
The advantage of this invention is that the light efficiency can be maintained from an installed light emitting unit without the need for regular humaw' intervention.
By frequently operating, the system prevents the build up of contaniinates on the light unit or lens or diffuser. H. The invention is designed be used wherever the cost of accessing or. . cleaning the light emitting unit is prohibitive. .. . An example of the invention will now be described by referring to the accompanying Drawing 1 figure 1: The automatic strip-light cleaning system.
The invention is designed to clean light emitting units.
In figure 1, (3) the carrier which houses the cleaning media is attached to (1), the motion control unit. The carrier (3) travels longitudinally up and down the motion control unit (1) by using electric or pneumatic drive mechanism.
During this process the carriage (3) housing the cleaning media wipes the light emitting unit (2).
