347,315. Lubricating-passages in universal joints. DEHN, F. B., 103, Kingsway, London.-(Mechanics Universal Joint Co. ; 19th Avenue, Rockford, Illinois, U.S.A.) Feb. 1, 1930, No. 3534. [Class 12 (ii).] In double universal joints of the type comprising an intermediate ring 7 to which are pivoted trunnionrings 14, 15 pivoted by bearings 13 on pins 10, 11 to the shafts 5, 9, the ring 7 is hollow and, through a plugged hole 29, can be charged with semi-fluid lubricant, which passes by passages 26, 27, 49, 48, internal passages (not shown) drilled in the rings 14, 15, passages 52, 53, 54, channels 55, and passages 56 .. 59 to all the bearings and to the ball-andsocket joint 34, 35 between the shafts. This joint is enclosed by a flexible cover 42 comprising a disc 43 and a wired-on sleeve 45 joined by an external circumferential seam 46, to avoid damage by inward folding thereof. Lubricant-seals 30, 32 are provided.
