[Class 106 (v)] In apparatus for delivering measured quantities of granular materials of the kind having a measuring chamber 4 provided with alternately opening inlet and outlet valves 5, 6 the inlet valve comprises a pronged or grid-like reciprocating shutter or preferably consists of two opposed reciprocating shutters each comprising a series of inwardly extending prongs, the prongs of one shutter being opposite the spaces of the other. The material to be measured is fed through an adjustable funnel 2 into a hopper 3 with a horizontal bottom from which depends the cylindrical measuring chamber 4 formed by two telescoping members 4<a>, 4b. The inlet valve comprises two sets of reciprocating prongs 5, 5<a> mounted in carriers 19, 19<a> and operating through apertures in the side walls of the member 4<a>, the apertures acting as scrapers. The carriers are coupled to pivoted levers 13, 13<a>, which are actuated by a cam 11 mounted on a driving spindle 7 and acting on a follower 12 at one end of the lever 13<a> which is linked at 12<a> with the lever 13. Springs 15, 15<a> normally retain the valve in opened position. The member 4b of the measuring chamber is longitudinally adjustable by means of a nut 10 operating on a screwed rod 9 and carries the outlet valve 6 comprising two semi-circular plates reciprocated in a similar manner to the prongs through the action of a cam 16 which is of elongated form to ensure the operation of the valve in different positions of the member 4<b>.
