Abstract
501,603. Artificial silk; dyeing. SOC. INDUSTRIELLE DE MOY, and BURET; R. Sept. 1, 1937, No. 23944. [Classes 2 (ii) and 15 (ii)] Artificial threads, fibres, ribbons, or films are made from a cellulosic solution, e.g. viscose, to which is added a syrup comprising an alkalisoluble phenol-aldehyde condensation product, and acid or basic dyestuffs are introduced into the spinning solution, or are applied to the spun threads or the like, without any subsequent polymerizing or hardening operation. To the condensation product there may be added also plastifiers, solvents, finely powdered pigments, or oxides or metal salts such as those of aluminium, chromium, cobalt and copper, capable of forming alkali-soluble compounds with the condensation products. To the spinning solution there may be added oils or pigments capable of decreasing the lustre of the fibre, or inert gases or substances capable of producing gases so as to obtain hollow fibres. The fibres may be mixed with silk or wool and dyed in a single bath without mordanting. In an example: (1) phenol is condensed with formol in the presence of caustic soda, acidified, evaporated, and the residue dissolved in caustic soda solution. This solution is added to viscose which is then spun, and the filaments obtained are dyed with a basic dye, e.g. malachite green; (2) filaments obtained as above are woven with viscose rayon and the fabric dyed with acid green J.G.; (3) filaments obtained as in (1) are dyed with acid violet 6BN ; (4) phenol and formol are condensed in the presence of an acid catalyst and the product, dissolved in caustic solution, is incorporated with viscose which is spun. The thread obtained is passed directly into a solution of rhodamine 6G ; (5) phenol and formol are condensed in the presence of caustic soda and glycerine, and the product together with acid red XB is incorporated with viscose ; (6) cresol is condensed with formol in the presence of caustic soda, and the product is incorporated in viscose. The spun threads are dyed with orange II ; (7) viscose containing the condensation product of the previous example is spun, and the thread obtained mixed with wool and dyed with an acid chromatizable dyestuff.
