[Also in Group XV] A handle-grip for a shaft comprises a spirallywrapped strip 30 of flexible stretchable material such as rubber formed with a flange 31 along one edge and a cut away 35 along the other which receives the flange 31 when the strip is wrapped. The flange 31 is continued at the lower end in a strip 61 which is wound round the shaft and bound with tape 70 or twine. The shaft top may be fitted with an internal or external cap 21 and the flange 31 has an extension 60 which is first wrapped round the upper end of the shaft. Alternatively, the upper end of strip 30 may be integral with a shaft cap. The upper and lower ends of strip 30 have bevels 51, 50 respectively. The edges of the exposed part of strip 30 are rounded to form a groove 49 which may hold a reinforcing or decorative strip. In modifications, the strip 30 may have elliptical perforations 170 which become circular when the strip is stretched in wrapping and which are backed by a strip 71 of contrasting colour in the cutaway 35 (Fig. 15), or the strip may be formed of two staggered strips 73, 74, the former having the perforations 170 and the latter being of contrasting colour (Fig. 16).
