Abstract

In a method of producing briquettes for use in the thermal extraction of magnesium, water is used to wet finely-divided ferrosilicon which is then mixed with finely divided magnesia-containing material and formed into briquettes. Preferably 2-5 per cent of water by weight is mixed with the ferrosilicon to produce a magnesia-containing mixture containing 0.5-3 per cent of water by weight.
