Abstract
757,724. Gas turbine plant. ROLLSROYCE, Ltd. Nov. 5, 1954 [Aug. 27, 1953], No. 23752/53. Class 110(3) A gas turbine plant debris guard comprising a number of retractable grid-like units has each unit formed of a perforated panel of plastics material together with a wire network having smaller apertures than the panel so arranged that the wires extend across the panel apertures. The guard unit 10, Figs. 1 and 3, is built up of two pieces of plastics material 10A, 10B formed with hexagonal passages 12. The piece 10A has four upstanding walls 11A and integral with one wall is a web 13 reinforced by brackets 15. The web 13 is formed with three holes 14 by means of which the guard unit is attached to the operating mechanism. Piece 10B is also formed with upstanding side walls 11B and is so such a size that it may be inserted bodily between the side walls 11A. A wire mesh consisting of three sets of parallel rows of wire 16, the rows being at 60 degrees to each other, is in the form of a tray which is sandwiched between the pieces 10A, 10B. The tops of the walls 11A, 11B are fused together. The plastics panel may be of any suitable thermoplastic or thermosetting material and may be reinforced. In a modification the guard unit consists of a single piece of perforated plastic in which holes are drilled at half the thickness, each of which contains a wire.
