Abstract

The invention comprises steroid esters of general formula R1.O.CO.L.CH(R2)R3, (wherein R1 is a cyclopentanophenanthrene radical attached to the ester grouping through position 17, L is CH2.CH2 or CH=CH and R2 and R3 are alkyl groups), and methods for preparation of the isocaproic and 4-methyl-D 2-pentenoic esters by reaction of the corresponding acid chloride or anhydride with a cyclopentanopoly-hydrophenanthrene derivative having a free hydroxyl group in position 17, particularly testosterone and oestradiol. In examples: (1) testosterone is esterified with isocaproyl chloride and pyridine, yielding testosterone isocaproate; also prepared (2) by heating testosterone with isocaproic acid in an atmosphere of CO2; (3) testosterone is treated as in (2) with 4-methyl-D 2-pentenoic acid, yielding testosterone 4-methyl-D 2-pentenoate, also prepared using the acid chloride or anhydride by conventional means.
