831,663. Mounting tubular lamps. SIEMENS EDISON SWAN Ltd. April 17, 1958 [May 28, 1957], No. 16914/57. Class 75(4) A lighting fitting for a tubular lamp, especially a fluorescent lamp, consists of a central unit 1 and a pair of spinal members 13, 14 supported thereby to extend in opposite directions, one or both being removable and held at the inner end by frictional engagement between opposite surfaces of a passage-way 6 formed in the central member so that they can be adjusted to vary the distance between the lamp holders 22, 23 held by their ends. The central member 1 may comprise an opentopped open-ended sheet metal structure with a channel 6 formed in the base to receive the spinal members 13, 14 and may house the control components 3, 4, 5, for a fluorescent lamp, these components being carried by a bracket 15. The member 1 may be closed by a mesh cover 24. A spring plate 7 is secured over the channel 6 and has a hole 10 to receive a screw to secure the spinal member 13, a hole 9 for the passage of the electric connections and a slot 11 in which a screw 20 on the member 14 can move lengthwise. Depressions 12 in the plate 7 serve frictionally to engage the members 13, 14.
