Abstract
<PICT:0856440/IV (c)/1> <PICT:0856440/IV (c)/2> Ribbon-like materials are produced in multiple widths, which are subdivisible into ribbons by the inclusion of strands of yarn in the material during previous manufacturing, located in positions where divisions are to take place, the strands of yarn being soluble in solvents which do not attack the bulk of the material, by batching the material made up of multiple width ribbons on a carrier in the form of a perforated cylinder member during the customary finishing process on a stentering frame, the batch of material being subsequently subjected to chemical treatment which dissolves the separating yarn. As shown cylindrical roller 1 may be mounted on the end 2 of a stenter. Carrier cylinder member 3 is perforated. Spindle 6 has ends 7 of smaller diameter designed to fit in fork-shaped guides 8 which prevent lateral movement but permit upward movement as the ribbon material builds up on the carrier cylinder 3.
