Abstract
Stannous fluoborate solutions containing at least 600 g.p.l combined tin, and from which the solid fluoborate can be crystallised, are prepared by treating an aqueous solution of a fluoborate of a metal more electropositive than tin, with excess metallic tin. Copper fluoborate is preferably employed and may be prepared by adding a stoichiometric excess of cupric oxide to a fluoboric acid solution. The stannous fluoborate solution is preferably evaporated at 40 to 90 DEG C. under 40 to 50 mm. of mercury, and on cooling to room temperature the stannous fluoborate crystallises and may be separated.
