Abstract

915,519. Packaging. TYE & SON Ltd. JOHN. Feb. 13, 1961 [Nov. 12, 1959], No. 38430/59. Class 94(1). A tube of thermoplastic material is initially welded at 12, Fig. 1, whilst flat to leave a series of interconnected containers 16 which are subsequently filled, the filled tube being then finally welded at 18, Fig. 2, to form separate containers which are cut off from the tube. The primary welds 12 prevent twisting of the tube during filling and permit printing of the tube prior to filling. Holes 13 provided in the primary welds permit registration and positive step-by-step movement of the tube by pins 15; alternatively the primary welds 12 can receive registration or index marks controlling the operation of a photoelectric registering device. The primary welds may be semicircular as shown in Fig. 3, or the final weld may be recessed, to permit the formation of necks 22 on the containers by trimming off unwanted portions of the welds.
