Abstract
930,379. Electromagnetic relays. W. DE FLIGUE. Jan. 19, 1960 [Feb. 12, 1959; Oct. 7, 1959; Dec. 17, 1959], No. 1961/60. Class 38 (5). A relay having a C-shaped core with a winding on the centre portion and pole faces at its respective ends facing respectively toward and away from the coil has a centrally pivoted flat armature with an extension at one end partially embracing one leg of the core to provide an auxiliary air gap. As shown, the core 3 is formed of two parts 3a, 3b engaged along a plane 4 and preferably held by an epoxy resin adhesive. A former 1 for the coil 2 surrounds the centre portion of the core and its enlarged ends 1b, 1c are slotted to receive the legs of the core 3. Plates 7, 8 secured to the former ends 1b 1c by screws 9 and support studs 21, carry ball-bearings 6 for the armature 5 which is normally held away from the pole ends 3c, 3d by a permanent magnet 17 which attracts the extension 5b of the armature. This extension 5b is hook-shaped and has three edges in close proximity to the leg of the core at the end 3b. The magnet is adjustably secured on the former end 1b by a saddle 18. The other end of the armature 5 carries contacts 14, 15 for alternate co-operation with fixed contacts 11a, 12a on brackets 11, 12, the electrical connection to the armature being made by a wire 10 soldered thereto and to the plate 7 which has a terminal lug 7a. The extreme positions of the armature are set by adjustment of the fixed contact - carrying brackets 11, 12 which have openings 26 (Figs. 6 and 7), through which securing screws 13 1 , 13 2 pass to screw into the former end 1c. The opening 26 has a maximum length d equal to the distance L and the radius of the ends is the same as the maximum radius of the screw heads 13b. As one screw is moved further and the other is moved outward the bracket is adjusted transversely, the frictional engagement of the surfaces 13b being sufficient to prevent any loosening or movement by vibration.
