Abstract
972,761. Orthodantic apparatus. H. A. TRAIGER. Feb. 2, 1961, No. 3969/61. Heading A5R. Orthodantic apparatus comprises a retention body having means of attachment to groups of natural teeth, at least one posterior mounting member carried on the retention body and traction means for exerting corrective pressures on selected teeth. An arcuate body 17 of channel cross-section is secured over the front teeth of the upper or lower jaw by dental cement which may be omitted in places to subject the teeth to corrective pressures or by engagement of the sides with the narrower parts of the teeth adjacent the gum. Wire loops 28 having hooks 29, 31, 32 extend rearwardly from the body 17 around the remaining upper and lower teeth at each side of the jaw. Elastic bands 33 are secured over the hooks and around or against malpositioned teeth to exert corrective pressures thereon. The hooks are either integral with the loops or provided by adjustably mounted brackets. Hooks 24, 26 on the ends of the body 17 are used in co-operation with the hooks on the loops for the attachment of elastic bands. Elastic bands may also extend between the loops and hooks (not shown) secured by orthodantic bands on individual teeth. A pair of bodies 17, 28 may be mounted on the upper and lower teeth simultaneously and interconnected by elastic bands 48 to exert a corrective pressure on the lower jaw. The retention body may comprise separate arcuate sides 97, 98 (Fig. 9) each having flanges 100, 101 which adjustably overlap to cover the teeth and define spaces through which malpositioned teeth are exposed. Hooks 106 arranged along the sides are used to mount elastic bands for correction of exposed malpositioned teeth.
