Abstract
972,766. Workpiece supporting devices' GESELLSCHAFT FUR FERTIGUNGSTECHNIK UND MASCHINENBAU G.m.b.H. March 14, 1961 [March 17, 1960], No. 9214/61. Heading B3H. A device for supporting workpieces in a predetermined position regardless of their diameter, particularly for use with a forging machine, comprises two pivoted levers 3, 4 which grip the workpiece like tongs, the supporting lever 3 being pivotally adjustable by an hydraulic piston 13 whilst the other lever 4 senses the diameter of the workpiece and acts upon a control valve 17 for the piston 13 causing it to move the axis of the workpiece to the correct position. Lever 3 is connected by a pin and slot joint with the casing 16 of valve 17, which casing is secured to the piston rod 14 through a buffer spring 15, Fig. 2 (not shown). Lever arm 4 is connected through a reversing gear 6-8, Fig. 3 (not shown), with a second lever arm 5 whereby these arms always pivot in opposite directions. Both levers carry jaws 11 which are tapered in the axial direction of the workpiece so that the jaws are forced apart when the workpiece is inserted. Arm 5 acts on the spring-loaded control valve 17 and is connected by a tension spring 10 to the lever 3. Pressure liquid is supplied continuously through pipe 19 to the rod side of the piston 13. The opening or closing movements of the jaws 11 is controlled by a magnetically-actuated valve 22 which connects the lower end of piston 13 to an exhaust conduit 24 controlled by valve 17. Both jaws 11 close upon the workpiece and the lever arm 5 controls the opening and closing of valve 17 so that the axis of the workpiece is always in its correct position. Valve 22 is reversed for opening the jaws. A constant pressure valve 26 is provided.
