972,797. Invalids' beds; mattress covers. A. KOCH. Sept. 4, 1963 [Sept. 5, 1962], No 34919/63. Headings A4J and A4M. In a rotatable bed for invalids, in which the invalid is held in a prone position between two mattresses which are rotatable together about a central longitudinal axis 20 through 180 degrees, each of the two mattresses is divided into two similar halves 15, 15<SP>1</SP> or 16, 16<SP>1</SP> articulated unilaterally on two rods 19 forming the longitudinal sides of a pivoting frame 21 supported on a main bed frame. Each mattress half is articulated to a rod 19 by means of two angle arms 17, 18 and rests with at least one roller 22 on the inner track of a rail 23 provided at each end of the bed frame. The track is partially circular with an opening at the top. The frame 21 is mounted for rotation in bearings 20 secured centrally on upper transverse members 5<SP>1</SP> of the bed frame. Pegs 25, 25<SP>1</SP>, 26, 26<SP>1</SP> are provided on the frame 21 so that it may rest on the transverse members 5<SP>1</SP> of the bed frame. The pegs 25<SP>1</SP>, 26' may be shortened to allow rotation of the frame 21. A stirrup-shaped extensible foot 8 is provided so that the head of the bed may be adjusted in height. Each half mattress is covered by a replaceable covering, Fig. 5 (not shown).
