977,967. Hydraulic vehicle suspension; steering trailers. CRANE FRUEHAUF TRAILERS Ltd. April 6, 1961, No. 12436/61. Headings B7D and B7H. In a vehicle in which the axles are arranged in rows, each axle comprises a pair of U-shaped plates 5a, 5b interconnecting coaxial stub axles 7 pivoted on a pin 6 below the stub axle axis to an adjustable hydraulic ram. The ram comprises an inner cone 12 and protective sleeve 13 attached to the frame 2 of the load-carrying platform 3 of the vehicle, e.g. a trailer, and an extensible cylinder 14 with a flanged cap 20 through which the pin 6 passes. The trailer is steered by levers 17, interconnected by links 18, and attached to flanges 16 on the cylinders the cylinders pivoting about the ram cores 12. The rams may be hydraulically interconnected in three groups to act as a three-point suspension or be individually controlled to keep the platform level on cambers and hill crests. For servicing any axle may be isolated and raised while the others are extended.
