Abstract

986,830. Rotary pumps and motors. T. LOLAND. June 18, 1962, No. 23401/62. Heading F1F. A rotary machine which may operate as a liquid or compressed air motor, a steam engine, a liquid pump or an air compresser, comprises a plurality of intermeshing rotors wherein each rotor is formed with a number of primary teeth with intervening recesses and each primary tooth and recess is formed at its crest and trough respectively with a number of small secondary teeth which on rotation of the rotors intermesh with complementary secondary teeth on adjacent rotors. As shown in Fig. 1, six rotors R rotate in inner and outer stator parts CS, SH and intermesh with each other to form and endless "chain". Each rotor is formed with six primary teeth ROF having secondary teeth FTF and intervening recesses RF having complementary secondary teeth TT so that as the rotors rotate the secondary teeth on a primary tooth on one rotor intermesh with the secondary teeth in a recess on an adjacent rotor. Each primary tooth ROF is provided with a radial sealing strip TL and each end face of each rotor with sealing strips RSL to seal the rotor with respect to the ends of the stator. Figs. 2, 4 and 5 (not shown) show arrangements of four eight and nine rotors respectively. Fig. 3 shows a four rotor arrangement including tertiary teeth PT which may also include smaller teeth. In other embodiments (not shown) a central rotor is flanked on either side with rotors of smaller diameter.
