Abstract
The present invention relates to the use of Allium Sativum extracts in the development of a therapeutic agent for the prevention and treatment of ischaemic cardiovascular disorders.This use of the Allium sativum extracts, relates to the inhibition it causes to the activation of the intrinsic pathway coagulation factors. This inhibitory effect is due to the prevention of coagulation enzymes-zymogens (activated or not) from binding to phospholipid vesicles as well as to the inhibition of the phospholipid membrane to act an activation template for the haemostatic factors.In addition, this use could also be supported by the inhibition of platelet activation caused by the Allium Sativum extracts, through a dose-dependent prohibition of thrombin receptor expression (the possibility however, that this could be a direct effect towards the integrin IIb/IIIa as it published previously cannot be excluded) and inhibition of platelet phospholipids' action.Consequntly the present invention also relates to parenteral administration of Allium Sativum extracts with or without stabilizing factors.
